The Flüggerhöfe were built between 1888 and 1937. The Flüggerhaus, part of the ensemble, was built by Frejtag and Wurzbach between 1907 and 1908 for the Flügger company. A special feature is the paternoster installed there, a circulating elevator. It is the oldest paternoster in the world.
The site on Hamburg’s Rödingsmarkt stood empty for years and was sold several times. The investor Müller-Spreer was awarded the contract for the Flüggerhöfe and is now developing the site with its old substance, part of which is a listed building.

Der Charme der 1920er Jahre weht noch immer durch das Haus. Von einem großartigen Empfang, über das helle Treppenhaus und den herrlichen Lichthof wird der Besucher in seinen Bann gezogen.

A mighty and striking building stands within sight of Hamburg Central Station: the Hamburg Health Department – today the Geesthof. It was built in 1927 by the brother of the Chilehaus architect, Hermann Höger (1882-1950). It has a special feature: During its construction, the building was built over the running subway traffic. This placed the highest demands on stability and noise protection. Bartholomay House Hamburg
Architect Rudolf Klophaus (1885-1957) built the building on Steinstraße for entrepreneur Rudolf Bartholomay in 1938, which also stands out for its decorative gable on Altstädter Straße. At the time of the bus, the architects had begun to design the stairwells to save space in order to gain more usable area. Kontorhaus at Hamburg’s Rathausmarkt

Even after the Second World War, there was a need for office space in Hamburg’s city center. Many buildings were damaged or destroyed. The foundation stone for the large Kontorhaus on Rathausmarkt was laid in June 1950 and completed in 1951. It has a total area of 11,000 square meters. A spacious staircase inside allows visitors to go up next to the elevator.

Parking garage under monument protection

In 1965, the largest parking garage in Hamburg at the time was built with 1000 spaces. The architect Peter Neve (1906-1985) worked here for Sprinkenhof AG and was in charge of the construction at Alsterfleet. In 2023, the city of Hamburg decided to place the building under monument protection. One reason is certainly the distinctive roof of the driveway in the building. This winds over 6 levels upwards. Light gets the driveway through numerous glass blocks that are embedded in the roof.

Kontorhaus Hammaburg City South

A „young“ Kontorhaus is located in Spaldingstraße. Here you can travel back in time to the 1950s. That’s when the building was built for use by commercial tenants between the main train station and Berliner Tor. It bears the old name of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg: The Hammaburg.

Kontorhaus Weserburg Spaldingstraße

A striking, massive building stands at the corner of Spaldingstraße and Heidenkampsweg. The Kontorhaus Weserburg – today Kontor 218 (after the house number). From 1909-1910, Alfred Kellermann (-) and Otto Tauchnitz (1880-) built the Kontorhaus for A. E. Werbeck. The charm of the history is hardly preserved. In order to use the building, it was completely renovated and rebuilt.

Höger’s expressionist clinker work can be seen here impressively in the surface (and height). Built for the cigarette company „Haus Neuerburg“, it first bore the name. Later taken over by the Reemtsma Group, it bore the name „Reemtsma Hof“.
