Ballinhaus: Das zweite Treppenhaus

Das Unternehmen wuchs und 1921 übergab der Architekt Fritz Höger den Anbau an HAPAG LLOYD. Aus beiden Häusern entstand der heute sichtbare einheitliche Block aus hellem Sandstein. Das Treppenhaus im Anbau ist nicht mehr so pompös. Es ist eine Mischung aus verspieltem Geländer und nüchternem Marmor und Granit.

Ballinhaus: The second staircase
The company grew and in 1921 the architect Fritz Höger handed over the extension to HAPAG LLOYD. Both houses were turned into the uniform block of light sandstone visible today. The staircase in the annex is no longer so pompous. It is a mixture of playful railings and sober marble and granite.

Aus dem ersten Bau von 1903 stammt noch das „alte“ Treppenhaus. Großzügig und so groß, dass es verschiedener Aufnahmen bedurfte, um seine ganze Schönheit einzufangen. Es führte von der Empfangshalle zu den Geschäftsräumen und dem Sitz des Direktors Ballin.

The „old“ staircase still dates from the first building 1903. Spacious and so large that it took several shots to capture its full beauty, It led from the reception hall to the offices and the seat of Director Ballin.

Die Passagiere der First Class buchten in der Kuppelhalle einst ihre Reisen. Der noch heute großzügige und beeindruckende Saal ist für die Mitarbeiter nun der Speisesaal und dient Events. Die Karte aus 1903 mit den Routen ist an der Wand zu bewundern.

First Class passengers once booked their trips in the Kuppelhalle. Still spacious and impressive today, the hall is now the dining room for employees and serves events. The map from 1903 with the routes can be admired on the wall.

Die Hapag-Lloyd AG ging 1970 aus der Fusion der beiden Reedereien
Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-ActienGesellschaft (Hapag) und Norddeutscher Lloyd (NDL) hervor. Ihre Geschichte ist älter. 1847 gegründet, erlebte sie unter dem Direktor Albert Ballin einen enormen Aufschwung. Zum Dank für seine Arbeit heißt das Haus an der Alster „Ballinhaus“. Der Hamburger Architekt Martin Haller war für den ersten Bau 1903 am heutigen Ballindamm verantwortlich.

Visit to HAPAG LLOYD
Hapag-Lloyd AG was formed in 1970 from the merger of the two shipping companies Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-ActienGesellschaft (Hapag) and Norddeutscher Lloyd (NDL). Its history is older. Founded in 1847, it experienced an enormous boom under its director Albert Ballin. In gratitude for his work, the building on the Alster is called „Ballinhaus. Hamburg architect Martin Haller was responsible for the first building in 1903 on what is now Ballindamm.
