The historic Kontorhaus from 1906 awaits visitors with a beautiful façade. The architect was Gustav C. E. Blohm (1869-1943). Inside, the beautiful façade is replaced by unadorned tiles and metal railings from the 1950s. An elevator was installed at a later date.

Built in 1910, the Kontorhaus suffered major damage to the roof truss in 1943. After the end of the war, the upper storeys were rebuilt down to the fourth level. The building was completely renovated and extended in 2006. Hakki Akyol and Philipp Kamps were responsible for this. Unfortunately, no information is available on the architect of the original building.

The old Oberpostdirektion is not an office building in the sense described on the website. However, this building is very central and striking in Hamburg and deserves attention. It was built for Deutsche Post between 1883 and 1887 by August Kind and Julius Raschdorf. In 2011, it underwent extensive renovation by https://lh-architekten.de/office. Today, it is home to medical facilities and municipal businesses. The Kontorhaus Brüggehaus in Raboisen was built in 1906 under architect Franz Bach (1865-1935). In the meantime, it also bore the names Eimbcke-Haus and Baltic-Haus. The façade and part of the magnificent entrance hall have been preserved.

In 2015, the building was renovated by GRS Architekten. The entrance with a dark coffered ceiling and thick wooden beams is set off by Delft tiles. Cityscapes of Amsterdam, Haarlem, Ghent and Bruges decorate the walls.

Kaisergalerie office building: Located on the canal, the Kaisergalerie office building was built between 1907 and 1909 on behalf of Anton Emden. The architect was Emil Grossner (1871-1947) A magnificent staircase welcomes the visitor and leads generously upwards.

The famous Ohnsorg Theater moved into the building in 1936. In 2011, the extensive renovation of the gallery by HN Architekten and David Chipperfield Architects. This was reopened in 2015. The offices underwent a complete refurbishment from 2020-2023. The Kontorhaus is a listed building. The name comes from the visit of the German Emperor to the Jenisch family’s palace. It stood on this site before the palace was built.

Office building on the Rathausmarkt
The former Schauenburgerhof on the Rathausmarkt is a Kontorhaus, built around 1900. Unfortunately, the builder and the client are not known. If you have any information, please send us a message. Thank you very much!

Johannishof office building
The Kontorhaus was built from 1895-1896 for the Guhl & Harbeck company, a Hamburg factory for sewing machines and typewriters. The architect was Georg Radel (1860-1948) A representative vestibule welcomes the visitor. A glass door (insulation) and an elevator were subsequently installed.

Kontorhaus Rüther Hamburg
Leon Freitag (1862-1927) and Hermann Wurzbach (1865.1905) built the Kontorhaus for the entrepreneur Carl Rüther near Hamburg’s Binnenalster from 1909-1910. It was rebuilt after the war, probably in the 1950s, and was given an elevator.

Kontorhaus Wiking Hamburg
The building, also known as Winkingerhof, was built by Knief and Deubel in 1914 for F. Kratzmann. The adjoining Fleetpeicher is still from the 18th century. The portal and the wood-paneled staircase date from 1916.
