Staircase Hamburg Barmbek South
A residential building from 1910 was upgraded by the architects with a beautiful staircase. In the entrance the visitor is welcomed by tiles on the walls and painting on the ceiling. The wooden staircase leads upwards with a beautiful swing.

Gerber Architekten gaben nach Abriss einiger älteren Häuser einem Block mit 123 Wohnungen den typischen „Hamburg Style“. Eine Einheit mit Geschäften im Erdgeschoss erinnert an Karl R. Schneider´s praktischen Wohnbauten.

Es geht also noch! Man kann modernen Wohnbau mit der Geschichte der Stadt verbinden. Gratulation an die Architekten!

Journey to the twenties
In 2022, a building was erected in Hamburg-Stellingen, which in its form could also have been built 100 years ago. The typical Hamburg clinker as a facade, the balconies (which are not) in the swing of the new building (Jarrestadt, Dulsberg) of the city on the Elbe.
Gerber Architects gave the typical „Hamburg Style“ to a block of 123 apartments after demolishing some older houses. A unit with stores on the first floor is reminiscent of Karl R. Schneider’s practical housing
So it still works! You can combine modern housing with the history of the city. Congratulations to the architects!

The Burmeister Houses in Winterhude
The architect and designer Karl. R. Schneider (1892-1945) was involved in mass housing construction in the 1920s. A large housing complex was built in 1927 in Hamburg-Winterhude on Maria-Louisen-Strasse. The circular building stands on a staircase base. Four staircases plus an elevator make it possible to ascend. More: LINK!

Habichtstraße residential block
The architect and designer Karl. R. Schneider (1892-1945) was involved in mass housing construction in the 1920s. Together with the architects Willy Berg and Max Paasche, he planned and realized a three-wing apartment block at today’s Ring 2. 240 apartments were built in red brick. For the time of construction, the standard of living was very high. There was central heating, hot water, bathtubs and loggias. The complex has remarkable balconies and a spacious gateway in the center. The apartment block is a listed building. LINK

Sahlhaus in Hamburg-Altona
Built after 1800, the Sahlhaus on Hein-Hoyer-Strasse was one of Hamburg’s first apartment buildings. Three doors lead to the apartments on the first floor and the upper floors. The attached triangular gable is classicistic.

Apartment house Gross-Flottbek The architect Fritz Höger built a small house in Gross-Flottbek in 1928. Compared to his large buildings, it amazes the observer. He created the Chilehaus and the Ballinhaus He was one of the important representatives of brick expressionism.

In 1870 the ground floor was extended with a restaurant and a shop. The „Bauverein zu Hamburg AG“ repaired the building in 1990 and restored the gables. They were damaged in the Second World War.
